Located near Highway 10, camping Martel, also known as the Gite du passant, is abandoned for a long time. Moreover, I had to discuss with the old villagers to know the name of that place. I tried to learn more by sending an email to the city, but the staff didn't know anything about the place. I don't think they even knew it was on their territory.
Yet it had been talk of organize the Ste-Brigide Rodeo at the abandoned campground, but the rodeo's organizers have preferred the facilities already present in the village, even having to deal with complaints from neighbors exasperated by the noise, dust and waste.
Anyway, getting back to the campsite, it remains today only a few traces of activity that prevailed there. Apart from the owner's abandoned house at the entrance to the site and the little house used as a gate, pool and the recreation house, the rest is a vast wasteland.
The land is now commercial zoned. Bordered by a stream which flows into the Yamaska river few kilometers away, there is over two million square feet.
Although no buyer has pointed its nose to buy that place, the commercial lot located next to the abandoned campsite is coveted by a developer who wants to build a gas station and two restaurants (Tim Horton and Normandin). By cons, considering that the site is not connected to aqueducts, he is currently in negociations with the city of Saint-Césaire who have the necessary facilities a kilometer away. For the moment, the city is not very keen on the idea to build the required facilities for business outside their territory. Money, money!!
